Is Todays Ephedra Supplements Fake or Real?
71
There has been a lot controversy about the use of Ephedra diet pills the last couple of years mainly because of a ban establish by the FDA back in 2004.
The reason was because of the Ephedrine Alkaloid that exits in some Ephedra plants and not in others, was related to side effects reported by users of Ephedra diet pills.
Before 2004 most Ephedra diet pills were based on Ephedra Sinica also called Ma Huang in Chinese. Sinica contains the talked about Ephedrine alkaloid that got banned.
Today Ephedra diet pills are slowly but steadily getting back on the market again. Many people describes it as either being fake or real Ephedra which is a mistake to say.
There is no such thing real or fake Ephedra
Ephedra exits in 32 different types of plants from across the world and four different types are the most commonly used in today´s Ephedra diet pills.
Ephedra Viridis is the most popular one used and it derives from North America. Viridis is also called Green Mormon tea. Viridis does not contain any Ephedrine alkaloids at all and is legal to use.
Ephedra Nevadensis is another Ephedra Herb also from North America and is called Mormon tea. Nevadensis does not contain any alkaloids either. Nevadensis is quite common as well.
From India we have Sida Cordifolia which is used in Ephedra diet pills like Lipodrene or Asia Black. Sida Cordifolia does contain Ephedrine Alkaloids but is much milder than the Ephedra King, Sinica. Cordifolia contains a total of 2.2 percent alkaloids of the Ephedra plant and between 40 to 90 percent of that is Ephedrine.
Finally we have Ephedra Sinica, which was the main reason for the ban back in 2004. Sinica contains around 3.3 percent alkaloids and of that around 40 to 90 percent is Ephedrine. Green Stinger and Black Ace are typical Sinica choices.
There is no doubt that Sinica is the strongest agent for weight loss followed by Sida Cordifolia, which would be the preferred choice of diet pills.
Fake or Real? Still there is no such thing, but the health industry kind of takes advantage of the situation and put out a bunch of diet pills on the market containing Ephedra. The consumers really do not have any idea what it is they are buying because the label just say 10, 25, 30 or even 75 mg of Ephedra without telling if it is from a plant that contains alkaloids or not and if yes how high is the dose of Ephedrine.
